God Is Ripening

Meadow in the Mountains

When gold is in the mountain
and we've ravaged the depths
till we've given up digging,

it will be brought forth into day
by the river that mines
the silences of stone.

Even when we don't desire it,
God is ripening.

  1. i consider the last line and wonder on the truth of it. it is a hopeful truth, perhaps a truth in the self, but i wonder about it as a truth in the world.

god ripening reminds me of the walls of the womb becoming thickened for life and then if life doesn't grow, of course the walls are shed. so really, the walls never become any thicker. it is a cycle. i wonder if it is the same with god. is god any more present now than ever in this world? any less? i don't think so. i think we create bowls within ourselves, ripen, and as we are shed, god is shed, making way for the possibility of ripening once again. it makes sense to me and yet it answers nothing really, for what is god? god is simply everything. there is no answer for there is no question. there is only an impetus to allow, to seek, within ourselves, a ripening.

"Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night."

~ Rainer Maria Rilke

Go ahead, bloom recklessly!
